Digital Camera Models
Traditional cameras use photographic film to capture images but were restricted to a small number of shots before the film had to be replaced; a situation which does not affect a digital camera. The increased weight is because these cameras often use heavy batteries even though they have fewer moving parts. Many types of electronic equipment can now read the images on the storage cards used to capture the pictures. Images are stored in digital form using the term Pixels which is just a digital expression of images that are made up of ones and zeros.
Many similarities exist between the two types of camera because lenses are still required to capture light just the same as a film version. All the budding digital camera enthusiast needs to know is that despite the difference in how the image is captured, the ultimate effect is the same. If you are using a more expensive type, the system used there is a CCD sensor. The less expensive capture system called CMOS is generally in lower end cameras and probably won't replace the more expensive CCD although it does an admirable job.
The CMOS device is this reason that many models have come down in price so much as they are easier and cheaper to produce than their CCD cousins. The CCD and CMOS devices used in digital cameras capture light like tiny solar collectors both achieving the same effect but just by differing methods. Some useful tips are mentioned here if you are currently looking for a camera like this. Image quality is important or it will be waste of time taking them so look for the highest megapixel model within your price range; they can also provide prints that are larger without any degradation.
Better photos will be taken with a digital camera that has an optical zoom and not just a digital zoom; it is much easier to take exactly the image you want with an optical zoom. Today's nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries are very powerful and last for around a 1,000 charges so always use these if you want to save money. If it is possible, try to buy a model with many functions as you will be able to create some stunning effects; just a few examples of functions to look for are shown here:
- Special night time shots
- Multiple exposures (on a single image)
- Self timer
If you're a photo freak, be sure that you have enough memory to take plenty of shots without worrying about storage. Storage space is much larger now than it used to be but the megapixels have risen as well so aim for as much memory as you can afford, it will be worth it but consider 1GB as a minimum.
Many people fall in love with a particular camera but don't ever consider how easy it will be to carry around with them so try not to make this mistake. Professional photographers may need heavy, bulky equipment but there is no requirement for a keen amateur to do so! Hopefully, these few tips will be enough to steer you in the right direction when you come to buy your camera. With all its technology, versatility and portability, the digital camera is the future of photography.
